Situated in Shanghai, the most renowned center of China’s economy, transport, technology, industry, finance and shipping, Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) has been playing an important role in the world and achieved tremendous success through its own history in the last 120 years. Today, SJTU has become a comprehensive, research-oriented and international university after going through these extraordinary years.

With a sense of gratitude and responsibility, School of Naval Architecture, Ocean & Civil Engineering (NAOCE), while continuing to uphold the tradition and motto of SJTU, is proud to set benchmarks for China’s naval architecture and ocean engineering in modern education and scientific research. It consists of 4 departments including Naval Architecture & Ocean Engineering, Engineering Mechanic, Civil Engineering and Transportation Engineering.

The School features two “Double First-class” disciplines by Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China (Naval Architecture & Ocean Engineering and Civil Engineering), two “State Key” disciplines (Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering, and Mechanics), and two “Shanghai Key” Disciplines (Fluid Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering). NAOCE also welcomes postdoctoral research fellows to work with our distinguished professors in the research fields of Mechanics, Naval Architecture & Ocean Engineering and Civil Engineering. Remarkably, Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering has been topped the ranking in Shanghai Ranking’s Global Ranking of Academic Subjects for four consecutive years since 2017. Besides, it was also awarded "A+", the highest grade, in the fourth round of national subject evaluation. Engineering Mechanics, with its leading comprehensive strength, is one of the most complete disciplines of the same kind in China. Civil Engineering rose to 29th in 2020 QS World University Rankings. Transportation Engineering was ranked the 6th in 2020 Global Ranking of Academic Subjects of Shanghai Ranking.

To date, NAOCE has made tremendous amount of breakthrough achievements in various research fields and has congregated the most powerful research force in China by establishing the Collaborative Innovation Center for Advanced Ship and Deep-Sea Exploration, State Key Laboratory of Ocean Engineering, National Large-scale Scientific Facility Center of Deepwater Technology Experiments and providing many high-level research platforms.

For the purpose of optimizing the faculty structure and the construction of high-level teaching faculty, NAOCE has always been providing top strategic priorities to faculty development over the years. In order to implement the strategy of enhancing NAOCE by attracting all of the talents that it has to offer, we sincerely invite young talented scholars from all over the world to attend “Si Yuan Global Young Scholars Forum 2021”, an advanced exchange platform designed for young talents in relative disciplines and fields. In the spirit of being world first class, we will jointly discuss some most popular issues in the academic frontier; promote exchanges and collaborations by means of keynote speech, academic discussions and lab visits.
