Passport
Please keep your passport safe. You may prefer taking a photocopy, and leave your passport in your room. In case of loss, you should immediately inform the Public Security Bureau and coordinators. You must then go to the Exit and Entry Administration to get a document entitled Confirmation of Lost Passport. It is a required document to apply for a new passport at your embassy or consulate.
Currency Exchange
Foreign currencies can be exchanged at most banks in China with their official exchange rate. (Check official rate: http://www.x-rates.com/) Do not exchange money with people outside the bank. Although traveler's checks can be changed in China, not all banks accept traveler's checks. Transaction fee is charged for cash withdrawals and the amount varies depends on your credit card company. We recommend you to buy a new SIM card at local telecom service for cheaper cost. There are three local telecommunication suppliers: China Mobile, China Unicom and China Telecom. Please pay attention to the brand (China Mobile/China Telecom/China Unicom). The brand of your SIM card and your recharging card should be the same. Chinese government practices real-identity registration system, so please bring your passport with you when you apply for a SIM card. In case of any problem, You can call the service number of your SIM card supplier.
